Wendy Lewis-Cordwell, Director of Bereavement Care Services – Cumbria and Lancashire, and the North West Bereavement Care Development Consultant for Child Bereavement UK.

Wendy liaises with all sectors of care – Acute Hospitals, Hospices, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Care plus third sector organisations dealing with all types of bereavement, focusing on end of life care and care of the deceased person, including providing dignified and respectful support for all bereaved families, a bereavement support professional for Macmillan Online Community

A trained facilitator for BSA ‘When a Patient Dies’, National Gold Standards Bereavement Care Training, Child Bereavement UK, Grief Journey UK, NCPC Associate and Bereavement Care Services, educating professionals in areas of loss and bereavement.

Wendy worked as the Macmillan Network Bereavement Development Coordinator between 2010 – 2013, researching all Bereavement Services for Lancs & South Cumbria Cancer Network, Macmillan and the End of Life Network, by building on existing good practice and national guidance, developing specifications, and publishing ‘When a person has Died’ (given to all families in Cumbria and Lancashire) and Bereavement Services Directory for Cumbria and Lancashire Version I & II – May 2013, revised and expanded to cover Greater Manchester in 2017 funded by GMLSCCSN.NHS.UK

Working in the NHS for 27 years, with a background in Pathology and Health Service Management. During her career, she has held posts in pathology management, quality services, IT, education, training, Bereavement Service Development which included supporting families before and after death. Lean Project Management in Pathology at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Mercy Hospital in Miami, USA. In 2014 and 2016 hosted visits from The Asan Nanum Foundation, Asan Frontier Academy, Seoul, South Korea to facilitate their learning around bereavement support and an organ donors support programme.

Chair of Bereavement Services Association (BSA), Chair of Lancashire and South Cumbria Children’s Palliative Care Network, National Bereavement Alliance Steering Group Member, NCPE – Associate, Funeral Poverty Alliance – Public Affairs Working Group providing a collective voice to the Government, other professionals and members of the public.

Her passion is to make a difference by supporting bereaved families giving them a voice to enable change.
