In Short

Important information

For any life threatening conditions parents should always call 999 or go the nearest NHS emergency department.

What happens when you call our urgent care?

To ensure the safety of our staff and patients whilst providing rapid access to healthcare assessment, management and onwards referral, the UCC has a new modified patient pathway. Patients meeting our COVID-19 screening tool criteria will be managed according to our ‘hot’ pathway. This includes undertaking a rapid COVID screening test (lateral flow) prior to being assessed. On phoning the UCC you will have an initial assessment by one of our doctors or paediatric nurses to ensure your child is suitable for further treatment.

  • If after assessment your child’s condition requires a face-to-face consultation, you will be given an appointment to attend the UCC.
  • If your child’s condition can be safely managed by video consultation, we will offer you this route.
  • If your child’s condition is not within our inclusion criteria, you may be advised to attend your local Emergency Department or seek treatment via the NHS.
