Screening Tests

This information is about the screening tests you will be offered during your pregnancy and after your baby is born. It explains the different types of test and what the tests are looking for. Public Health England (PHE) created this information on behalf of the NHS. In this information, the word ‘we’ refers to the NHS service that provides screening. The information is also available in 12 other languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Somali and Urdu.
In Short
The advice includes information on the following:

Infectious diseases;

Sickle cell and thalassaemia;

Down's syndrome, Edward's syndrome and Patau's syndrome: combined or quadruple test;

11 physical conditions - 20 week scan;

Diabetic eye screening;

Eye, heart, hip and testes (physical examination);

Hearing loss; and

Blood spot.
