Week 26
Babies (on average) will be around 36.6 cm in length and around 875 g now. Babies’ eyelids will be starting to open…although at first they can see only in black, white and greys. As their kidneys develop, they will produce more urine into the amniotic sac. Their skin is protected from the urine by the waxy vernis coating. Their hearing will be getting stronger and stronger, so talk a lot to encourage the bonding between you.
Week 27
Babies (on average) will be around 37 cm or nearly 15 inches long, and around 1kg in weight. Baby boys will start to outgrow baby girls now. Your baby will be fitting very snugly into your uterus, but they will still be able to squirm, kick and turn. The toothbuds, enamel and dentine are developing, and there are creases appearing in their tiny palms. Babies born at this time have a 90% chance of survival.
Week 28
Babies will now be measuring (on average) 38.6 cm and weighing in at 1.2kg. The folds of your baby’s amazing little brain have increased to hold millions of new brain cells. Vital development continues in lungs, getting ready for breathing air.
