Teenage sleep

The National Sleep Foundation recommends teens get between 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Only around 15% of teens in the UK get this much. Lack of exercise and screens (including phones) too close to bedtime are the major problems. Helping teenagers settle into a good sleep routine is a major plus for both them and you! Good quality sleep is correlated to many things – a lower risk of obesity, and better concentration, focus and mood. Understanding things like the impact of light from TV and computer screens, and your child’s sleep hormones is hugely important. This can do a great deal in setting up a pattern where your child will fall asleep easily, sleep well, and not wake up too early.
