Speech, language and communication

Human language is amazing. We tend to take it for granted, but the development of language in children is a phenomenal process. At its core, communication is the ability and drive to connect with other people, both verbally and non-verbally. At birth, babies communicate with sounds, facial expressions and gestures. Toddlers start to use language in a more recognisable way and also generally become more sociable. However, communication skills are much broader than simply using words and include listening and understanding as well as social skills, like taking turns. Each child is different but there are games and activities that really help all babies and toddlers to improve their speech, language and communication skills.
