Week 14
Babies now average 10.1 cm in length and 70 g in weight. In baby girls, the ovaries are starting to form now – containing thousands of eggs. In a scan it might be possible to see the gender of your baby. The umbilical cord – connecting your baby to your placenta and you, is getting thicker and stronger. It’s now carrying all the oxygen and nutrients to your baby – and the amount is increasing daily.
Week 15
Babies (on average) are now 11.6cm in length and around 100g in weight – around the size of a decent grapefruit. Your baby’s kidneys are now working and they can filter blood and eliminate waste from the body. There are some slow eye movemenst emerging and even a little limb coordination – this is because the brain which controls these movements is developing rapidy.
Week 16
Babies (on average) will be around 13cm in length and weigh around 140g. Around the size of a large pear. You may now be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat for the first time now. Your midwife will use a Doppler sonicaid, placing it on your tummy to listen. Amazing. Your baby will be looking more and more in preparation as her head grows more slowly and the body and limb growth speed up.
